Probably many have heard this phrase when they were kids “Finish your veggies son!” and swore not eat them at all after growing up.
If you are one of them this can disappoint you but fruits and veg are very important part of our diets and you can’t really have a normal well functioning and healthy body without them. Sad, isn’t it?
You still can live and survive without them but your body would look and feel much different.
Overcooking your veg is a common problem. Soft, tasteless and colourless mass isn’t appealing, I must agree. Doing this we throw all vitamins away and our money too.
Daily you should really eat 5-10 servings of veggies and fruit and it can be done quite easily (yeah, right, you must be thinking now). Actually, one serving is nothing. Glass of juice with the pulp is one serving, medium apple is one serving, and medium carrot is one serving. Achievable isn’t it?
Preparing those fruits and vegetables is really a pain you might think. It’s not that bad if you prepare everything when you have some spare time, before you go to bed for example. Also you should consider of buying a useful tool called peeler to make your preparation much easier.
Peel and cut your fruits and veg before your sleep and get them ready for the next day. Cut them and put them in sandwich bags. Actually, get ready selection of fruits and veggies and keep them in fridge so you can have them anytime you need them.
It’s fast and easy to grab a previously prepared bag with your fruit and veg to work. Keep them with you and every time you want a snack just empty one and you’re sorted.
Increase your veggie consumption with eating soups. Try to stay away from canned soups because they usually are full of salt and fat. Make soups yourself instead where you can choose your ingredients, amount of salt and fat.
Small salad potion is one serving as well so eat them as often you can. One thing to stay away is, don’t load them with salad dressings but use oil or vinegar instead. Have you ever tried balsamic vinegar?
Get some ideas for you healthy daily menu bellow:
Breakfast – add some fruit to your cereal instead of using sugar. Choose a juice with the pulp as your drink as this is a good way of “eating” fruits and getting more fibre.
Lunch – eat salads if you can and don’t overdo with the salad dressing by better add some extra oil or vinegar. Have a fruit for the desert as this is much better than having a cake.
Dinner – if you fancy a pizza then try vegetarian one. Why not to try a fish with green leaves or corn and balsamic vinegar for example? Mix different types of fish, different types of green and you will never get bored.
